What’s a Cake Ball Cake?

A cake ball cake looks like a traditional tiered wedding cake, but is made up of only cake balls.

It is a tiered cake made out of Styrofoam cake dummies (not real cake!), which is then covered in fondant. Cake balls are then put onto the fondant-covered cake dummies with toothpicks and a small amount of chocolate.

Guests are able to take the cake balls off of the cake throughout the reception, or catering staff can be asked to take the cake balls off and placed in front for guests.

A cake ball cake is a beautiful display that is a perfect option for couples who love the look of a traditional wedding cake, but want cake balls instead!

Quantities and Pricing

The number of cake balls that a cake can hold depends on what size tiers you order:

6″ Round (8-9 inches with addition of cake balls): 45 balls total (15 per row)

8″ Round (10-11 inches with addition of cake balls): 57 balls total (19 per row)

10″ Round (12-13 inches with addition of cake balls): 72 balls total (24 per row)

12″ Round (14-15 inches with addition of cake balls): 84 balls total (28 per row)

As for pricing, the cake balls are priced regularly and separate. You are simply paying for the actual tiers (materials: cake dummies, fondant, toothpicks, chocolate) and the time involved of putting together the cake, which is the majority of the cost, as it is a very time consuming process. The ombre design (change in color from light to dark) costs extra.

Please contact Christina for pricing for the cake ball cakes, as it is specific to tiers and design.
